In September 2005, I had the opportunity to take a long weekend trip to Riga, the capital city of Latvia. I was pleasantly surprised by the city, as I was expecting a typical Communist gray atmosphere. Instead, I found a very modern city with a beautiful old town that was full of character and charm.
Exploring the City
Riga is a great walking city, and I spent a lot of time wandering around and exploring the different neighborhoods. The old town, in particular, was a highlight of my trip. The architecture was stunning, and I was especially impressed by the abundance of Jugendstil (German Art-Nouveau designed) buildings throughout the city.
